Funeral Planning at St. Augustines
When a loved one dies
When a loved one dies, being surrounded by a community of loving family, friends, and neighbors can be of great comfort. The people of St. Augustine's provide love, support, and a sense of peace during processes of grieving. Remember that everyone grieves in their own way, on their own time. We are here to walk alongside you.

First steps for planning a funeral
St. Augustine's endeavors to make funeral planning a smooth process for your 'ohana. Here are some first steps to follow:
- Contact Vicar Jennifer - Please let her know if you would like a visit at the hospital or your home.
- Contact a funeral home or cremation provider to arrange transportation and care of your loved one's remains.
- Plan a date for the service - The service can occur any time; there is no rush. Select a date when those close to you and your loved one can attend.
- Meet with Vicar Jennifer - At this meeting, Vicar Jennifer will step through the planning process with you. You can preview our St. Augustine's funeral planning document here.
- Arrange for a burial site - Members of St. Augustine's who have purchased a plot can proceed with preparing the site in advance of the service, including purchasing a marker. For those who have not purchased a plot at St. Augustine's, we have a few sites (for urns only) available. Please call the church office at 808-889-5390 and leave a message for John Sakai, who will call you back about available sites. Burial at the Hāwi County Cemetery is also available. For more information, please contact the Parks & Recreation Administration Office at 808-961-8311 (Extension 1).
Preplanning a funeral
St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church has created a Funeral Planning Booklet to help our loved ones make decisions for us when we die. As difficult as it may seem, it’s important to communicate our thoughts about death. Putting our wishes in writing is a message of love and support for our family. We hope it will be helpful in guiding you and your ‘ohana through planning processes.
The booklet will help you record important information to help your family make the best decisions based upon your wishes. By taking a few minutes to complete this booklet now, you will help your loved ones honor your wishes and, most of all, you will make the funeral planning process easier for them.
This booklet follows the Burial Rite from the Book of Common Prayer of the Episcopal Church and provides guidelines and choices regarding a memorial service at St. Augustine’s. I am happy to meet with you, go over the options, and explain all aspects of the process. Please contact me any time to set up a meeting.
With God’s peace,
