CHURCH CAMPUS
St. Augustine's Church is located at 54-3801 Akoni Pule Highway just before the town of Kapa‘au in North Kohala on the Island of Hawaii.
Our campus consists of four buildings and a well-tended cemetery. The church is affectionately known as the “red door church.” It was built in 1884 and underwent major structural repairs after earthquake damage sustained in October 2006. The sanctuary can seat 70. A bell tolls the call to service each Sunday.
A second building is James Walker Hall, named after the Archdeacon who served our church faithfully for 30 years beginning in 1919. Walker Hall is 2,178 square feet and houses a generously-sized Sunday school room below. This hall serves as an outreach facility in our community for meetings and small gatherings. It includes a certified kitchen. An office for our vicar, with its own entrance, is conveniently located adjacent to Walker Hall.
A third building houses the popular St. Augustine's Thrift Shop and church office. The Thrift Shop is open on Wednesdays and the first Saturday of each month.
Our vicarage is the fourth building on campus. It is 1,450 square feet and includes a kitchen, a livingroom, a bedroom with a nearby bathroom, an office, a front entrance room, a primary suite (bedroom, closet, and bathroom), and an attached carport. In 2007, home was expanded to include the front entrance room (which functions as a dining room), front and back lanai, and the primary suite.
Recent campus improvements have included the addition of privacy fencing and a gate along the vicarage boundary. In compliance with state and county laws, the cesspool was converted to a septic system in 2014.
