Worship Ministry
Acolytes
Acolytes light and extinguish the altar candles, lead the procession as crucifer, hold the book for the reading of the Gospel, and help the priest prepare for communion. Altar Guild The Altar Guild is responsible for the care of linens, vestments for clergy and servers, brass, silver, and candles. They prepare the altar for services and acquire and arrange the altar flowers. This is an important behind-the-scenes ministry that requires in-depth training and a deep commitment to the care of the sanctuary and altar. Eucharistic Ministers The eucharistic minister helps the priest prepare the altar for the Eucharist. He or she will read the prayers of the people, and administer the chalice at communion. Lay Readers Lay Readers read the Scripture assigned for each service. |
Music
St. Augustine’s has a lively music program directed by Mila Polevia. Pre-pandemic, our choir and a youth ukulele group provided music on Sundays. We look forward to resuming choir and ukulele soon. In the meantime, Mila—who is well-known in Kohala and beyond for his vocal and instrumental talents—continues to enrich our services with incredible music, much of which he has composed. Some of our service music is sung in Hawaiian, deepening our cultural connections to this place and honoring the Hawaiian leaders whose devotion to the Anglican Church forged a special bond between the Church and the Hawaiian people. Come and join us! |
